The Sewer Pipe Lining Process

liner curing

Since sewer pipes are typically buried in the ground, replacing them can be expensive and time-consuming. To help with this problem, SD Lining Solutions offers pipe lining services to repair the existing pipe or help prevent future leaks. If you’re scheduled to have a sewer pipe lining done on your property, this is how the process works.

Sewer Inspection

Inspections are a standard part of many of our services, so it’s no different when we do trenchless pipe lining in Sioux Falls, SD. Inspecting the affected sewer pipe is essential in helping us determine and confirm the severity and location of the damage.

Pipe Cleaning

A clean pipe provides a better, more conducive environment for repairs. Many pipe lining companies clean the pipes beforehand to optimize the pipe lining efficacy. This is because when there are no obstructions in the affected pipe, the epoxy or resin-saturated liner adheres better to the interior.

Measurement and Mixture Preparation

We then measure out the pipe and calculate how much resin mixture to use for the precut liner. This is an important step in the CIPP pipe lining process, with little to no margin for error. If the ratio is off, the lining would either take too long to cure or will not be sufficiently covered with the resin. The mixing process can be done by hand or by an automated mixer. Roller machines are then utilized to help make sure that the liners are well and evenly saturated.

Inversion

The felt tube is then inverted so that the resin-laden side is on the outside. This will then be pulled through the damaged pipe and inflated using air or water pressure so that the liner is flush against the inner surface. In most cases, even in cast iron pipe lining, we’ll have to wait for 4 to 12 hours (depending on the method used) for the pipe to cure or harden completely before the pipe’s functionality is restored.
