The Various Pipeline Curing Methods
Home /
Pipelines come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Some are made of plastic, others steel; some are submerged in water, and others are buried underground. CIPP pipe lining is a technique that allows for a variety of pipes to be rehabilitated to their full functionality. An important step in the pipe lining process is the “curing” – letting the epoxy or resin harden so that the pipe can be rendered useful again.
SD Lining Solutions provides trenchless pipe lining in Sioux City, IA, and we are well-versed in the various curing methods that can be utilized for a successful pipe restoration service.
Ambient Curing
As the name suggests, this curing method does not require additional equipment since the mixture cures by itself shortly after the sewer pipe lining service is carried out.
Hot Water Curing
Curing with hot water is the method typically utilized by pipe lining companies. This technique entails the use of hot water which is then circulated through the system via the access points until the resin cures according to standards.
UV Light Cure
Curing with UV light is a quick process that is relatively new, but it requires specialized equipment. The pipe is cleaned, then the resin is applied. Then, a special UV light train has to be inserted in the pipe for around 4 hours (the time depends on the thickness of the pipe). Curing with UV light is helpful for applications such as cast iron pipe lining.
Steam Curing
This uses hot air instead of water to cure the pipe. The pipe is heated at a certain temperature and maintained for a set period of time, which causes the resin to cure from the inside out. This speeds up the curing process by around four times compared to hot water. It also causes the inside diameter of the pipe to expand, which allows for a thicker coating of resin.
Pipeline curing is a critical step in the construction process and is applied to many different types of pipelines. The experts at SD Lining Solutions have extensive experience treating all types of pipelines. Contact us to schedule an appointment.
